2024 TCC Bible Reading Plans https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/2024-Bible-Reading-Plan https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/2024-Bible-Reading-Plan#comments Tue, 09 Jan 2024 12:00:00 -0500 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/2024-Bible-Reading-Plan Click Here to download the PDF file.

These Bible reading plans from TCC seek to help you develop good Bible reading habits.

  1. The self-explanatory alternatives allow you to choose a plan that is right for you.
  1. Each schedule varies the length of the assignments to make it easy to catch up if you fall behind.  Weekly rather than daily readings eliminate the sense of pressure if you miss a day.
  1. The months are left blank to give flexibility for your start date.  The blanks next to the assignments allow you to record your completion date and thus keep track of your progress.

God’s Word is always fruitful in the lives of those who devote themselves to it (Isaiah 55:8-11).  Our elders commend the Word of God to you and trust God will bless you as you read His Word.

Grace and peace,

Don Green

The Church https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/the-church https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/the-church#comments Mon, 24 Aug 2020 11:00:00 -0400 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/the-church The longer I’m in ministry, the more I think the church (broadly speaking) has not taken this as seriously as it ought:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places”
(Ephesians 6:12).

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

And as a sad result, we haven’t taken earnestly enough the admonitions to stand firm, resist the devil, and take on the full armor of God.

Yes, thankfully, Christ will still build His church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

But somehow, in a way I don’t pretend to understand, I think we are openly in that spiritual battle in our days.

My perspective doesn’t mean much. But I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

The deception and division at work in so many places does not allow a different assessment.

And I think it remains to be seen whether Christians will put on the armor of God, or whether this will get much worse before it gets better.

“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints”
(Ephesians 6:18).

Remember Your Position in Christ https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/remember-your-position-in-christ https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/remember-your-position-in-christ#comments Sun, 09 Aug 2020 08:00:00 -0400 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/remember-your-position-in-christ Follow My Christian friend, in the midst of all that's happening (it's a lot and it's all complex), step back and remember a few simple things about your position in Christ.

1. The written Word equips you for everything in life

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

2. The incarnate Word equips you for everything in life

"In Him all the fulness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete" (Colossians 2:9-10).

3. Your heavenly Father directs everything in life for your good

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

4. The provision of your Father is enough for everything in life

"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

5. You appropriate these resources through daily prayer

"Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:12).

There's so much more I could say, but those five principles are more than enough to prove this point:

Whether you lack discernment in the spiritual challenges facing the church, or you are agitated at the events at work in the world, or whether your personal life is the cause of heartache this evening, our gracious Savior beckons you to come, lay your heart out to Him plainly, and find your strength in Him.

He's the Good Shepherd who genuinely cares for His sheep.

So go right now to Christ and tell him all that's on your heart.

Confess your sin and your weakness.

Ask Him for grace and to give you understanding in His Word.

As you do that over time, you'll enter into the rest He promises to give to every discouraged heart that seeks Him in spirit and in truth.

You don't need to be strong. He gives strength.

You don't need to be composed. He helps the weak.

"Come to Me, all who are weary and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and 'you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).

Yes, we have tribulation in this world.

But our Christ has overcome the world.

And He gladly shares the victory with His own.

It's yours for the asking.

Courageous Men https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/courageous-men_2 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/courageous-men_2#comments Sun, 09 Aug 2020 08:00:00 -0400 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/courageous-men_2 I’m thrilled by the social media posts of the public support given to John MacArthur and Grace Community Church today.

I know many of you rejoice with them as well.

But the open affirmation is all the more reason for yokels like you and me to pray in private all the more for these courageous men.

Caesar sees all this, too, my brethren.

And Caesar still has his sword.

GCC is doing the right thing and I support them completely.

The Lord is on His throne and we rest in that.

Still.

As I’ve said before: this is not a drill.

It’s deadly serious.

I don’t speak for anyone at GCC.

But if I did, I’d be pleading with you all the more just now:

“Brethren, pray for us” (1 Thessalonians 5:25).

You know that you should trust God when hard times come, but exactly how do you trust God when life seems to fall apart at the seams? This life-changing study from the book of Habakkuk will teach you how to move from trials to spiritual triumph–even if your circumstances don’t change.

Wash Your Hands https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/wash-your-hands https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/wash-your-hands#comments Fri, 05 Jun 2020 11:00:00 -0400 https://www.truthcommunitychurch.org/blog/post/wash-your-hands We have heard so much about maintaining physical health during these times. Fair enough--I'll wash my hands and maintain social distancing.  I promise.

But there's more to life than such things.

So I just want to offer a few thoughts to help my Christian brethren maintain their spiritual health this weekend.

It's so easy to forget the basics.

First, all—or nearly all of us—have a safe place to stay and food to eat today. That's no small blessing.

“For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:6-7).

Whatever *else* may be happening around us, surely we can at least pause and give thanks to God for that.

Secondly, Matthew 6:25-34 is a good meditation in these times of upheaval. I can’t urge you strongly enough to spend some unhurried time reading through it--especially those of you that are easily gripped with fear.

Yes, we don’t know what the future holds. But it's not like Christ failed to prepare us for such things: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:33-34).

Many of us miss corporate worship and the fellowship of the saints—especially in a time when mutual, in-person encouragement would be so meaningful.

Perhaps we have a taste of what the faithful people of God felt in Old Testament exile—longing for their homeland and the familiar temple worship, yet the authorities of the day made that impossible for them to enjoy.

It appears our “exile” will last a little while longer, but it surely won’t be 70 years as it was for Israel.

God kept them. He will keep us.

There is spiritual opportunity for us if we look for it. The Christ who loved us and gave himself up for us is with us always, even to the end of the age.

You can find your rest in him.

Christian friends, our God will sanctify this time to the good of our souls. We will certainly get through it.

Time, in the wise hands of our sovereign and loving Lord, will be our friend.

We still have ample reason to worship and give thanks.

"Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
